Winters in Boston

Travel Guide: United States- Massachusetts

Boston is a city that must be visited while being in the United States. Massachusetts, is one of the most historic states and has some of the best sea food. If you visit, we recommend you visit in the summer or fall but if you happen to be there in winter there is still lots of things to do…that why made this blog post, just make sure you bring your best jacket and winter boots.

One of our favorite things while we were there was the Boston Winter Market at City Hall. The idea of this market is to create a fun gathering of all winter actives for you and your friends to enjoy the outdoor activates as well as the pleasures of sitting next to a fire drinking hot chocolate or hot wine.

For both inside people and outside peeps, this place has it all. This market organized every year surrounds the ice skating rink built in front of city hall and it’s a little town of tents filled with handcrafts and cool things to buy.

For the outdoor lovers, enjoy the skating and live music while you walk around throughout the shops. For fireplace, drinks and food lovers, swing by with some friends enjoy the delicious food and we recommend you stop by the hot wine tent next to the main structure tent, get yourself some and head inside to find a whole set up bar and different fire place pits to sit around, warm up and pass the time with some friends.

Boston, is a city known for its history and well-kept architecture. The Freedom Trail is one of the most traditional tourist activates there is in the city, but I do not recommend it during the winter, specially while there is snow on the ground.  Boston can get extremely cold in the winter, as it is next to a coast and the wind can be extremely chilling. Visiting the freedom trail entails following it, as it guides you through the cities most important historical landmarks, which entails walking the entire city. In the freezing cold, and potentially missing the mark stops ( pictured) on the ground, as they might be covered in snow.

The trail, has stops at tons of place where history was made and is something I look forward to being able to visit soon in the summer. This is why, for history and architectural lovers, I recommend visiting Boston in the summer. For anybody else who gets the pleasure to visit this beautiful city in any other season, this blog post should help with tips and fun actives one can do even when its cold outside in Boston

As a fan of ice skating and hockey myself, this was one of my favorite days while I was in Boston, especially with kids. Ice skating at Frog Pond, is something you will have to do if you are there in winter. This is because s the pond is located in the middle  of the Boston Common, the main and biggest park in Boston, which is a must visit. Our day was based on having breakfast/brunch around the park, tons of really great places and later heading to skate.

Renting skates is about $12 for adults and $6 for kids, admission is $6 and the pond is open from 10 am till around 8-10 p.m., my recommendation is going earlier in the morning/afternoon as its warmer before the sun goes down.

Once you are done skating, you can go get a warm drink at the Thinking Cup, a cafe located a couple of blocks away, with some of the best coffee I have drank in years. Once your warm and cozy, don’t miss out on walking around the area, as you will find some important historical attractions, as well as the park which is a big central part of what Boston is about. P.S: For those reading , who love shopping, a huge mall is not very far from here, take advantage of the chance while you are there.

ATTENTION FOODIES, this is your spot. My memories of the food in Boston, are nothing but memorable. The sea food, of course can’t be replaced, their crab is glory. The Boston Public Market, is a commonly visited market by the locals, that offers market style shopping, as well as restaurant made food to sit down and enjoy. For those running on a budget, I recommend if you have a kitchen you enjoy the perks of buying delicious but affordable ingredients here, enjoying the atmosphere and preparing food at home. Meanwhile does of you who have a bit more spending power, be sure to look around and find whatever food your craving to eat. You will find all selections and varieties.

Markets in Boston are a popular trend, in any season. This being one of the main reasons I love Boston, markets like these are traditional European and can be very pleasant for tourists to get a feel of what the locals enjoy to do. Highly recommend .

For a really cold day during the winter, we ventured out later in the evening to The Paint Bar in the Back-Bay area (One of our favorites). Before heading to your wine and painting class, walk around for a little through this part of the city full of stores and boutiques. It’s a very old part of town but it keeps it charm of modernism with its stores and boutiques. The classes at the paint bar can be a little bit pricey around $30-40 but they are totally worth it, very fun and relaxing.

If you are an early or late eater, we do recommend based on your choice to go before or after to Luke’s Lobster. Not expensive, very hip and exciting as it’s something very new market. This east coast chain is now getting big around the USA, but no fish quality ever compares to the Boston fish. They are known for their lobster and other fresh fish products.  So, we recommend if you go, to get the lobster roll. What a delight, haven’t had something so good in a while. We highly recommend it
